In the News: Al Jazeera’s “Cultural Chameleons”

Hi there! Today’s post came from (and led to) some great finds. While many of you may already know about the contents of this post, I think it will be of great interest to those who are still looking into Third Culture Kid topics.

My online journey began at Sezin Koehler’s blog. Sezin Koehler is a TCK and writer who had the chance to be interviewed for a TCK discussion on Al Jazeera’s program, The Stream. When I first read that she’d been featured on Al Jazeera, I thought that my lead would end at her blog. Al Jazeera’s current media control over content that is shown to U.S. audiences makes it hard for me to share relevant videos to you. After all, this is a video archive! However, Mrs. Koehler did not disappoint. Not only does she provide a great blog on TCK and Global Nomad ideas, but she had the entire video clip of the Al Jazeera interview as well. Thus, I am able to write this post and share with you.

On June 5, 2013, Al Jazeera’s The Stream aired an episode that introduced and briefly explored what it means to be a Third Culture Kid. Hosted by Femi Oke (who found out she was a TCK while researching the topic for the program), this episode included group interviews and viewer input through live social media feeds. You in the U.S. can watch the episode at the link below. Everyone else may watch from their choice news sites. Here is a link to the episode’s homepage.
